Smart Bags is a project that originated from another of Nahiko Mikasa's ventures, Anatomy of Love.

Mikasa was approached by Dievardump, a friend and fellow blockchain developer.

Dievardump realized that the technique used to visualize smart contracts as images could be applied to well-known contracts and popular NFT collections.

Effectively Smartbags buyers are collecting smart contracts.

The Story starts on January 16th 2022, Nahiko and Dievardump are discussing the Anatomy Of Love release (which is the 1/1 that inspired Smartbags), while, out of the blue, Dievardump says:

"Dude, this technique could be used so that people can mint their favorite contracts ! like Cryptopunks or Cryptokitties"

What a genius !

Data is extracted from your favorite contract (address, deployed code & name)
Deployed Code is turned into a visual (see the contract)
The Smartbag Image is assembled On-chain using On-chain data

While most on-chain projects are fairly simplistic/cartoonish because of technical limitations (which birthed the Compressionism movement), Smartbags strives for realistic rendering.

This was done by highly compressing the textures, and hand-painting the bags in SVG code.
